Kiambu County government never rehabilitated any of the reformed alcoholics as they claimed earlier, Gladys Chania has said.
The owner of a private rehabilitation centre in Thika town dubbed Right@Home has differed with the Health executive member Jonah Mwangi that the county government constructed 12 rehab centres across the county in all the level four hospitals.
She said that the minimum time a victim can be rehabilitated is 90 days contrary to the county government who conducted their activities within two weeks before releasing the victims outside.
“You can only claim to have rehabilitated a victim if they had been in the rehab centre for not less than 90 days and so no rehabs are in Kiambu County as they claimed earlier. This is not about politics but we have seen the aftermath of their activities,” she said.
Chania claims that over 50% of those that were ‘rehabilitated’ by the county government resumed their drinking and that is why the illicit brews have been resurfacing slowly in the society.
She further called upon the MPs and the county government to be fair to the reformed alcoholics and offer them jobs or else funds to start own businesses without harsh restrictions as they have been doing.
“It’s true we destroyed and seized the brew but they are back again everywhere. You cannot tell someone to seize from drinking and leave him without anything to do. Give them jobs and funds to go ahead with their lives instead of idling and getting back to drinking,” she added.
She added, “We pleased the President for just a month but now the brews are back and the praises are gone. Let’s be accountable and follow up the work we do.”
