Kiambu County government is set to hire 375 nurses to address the shortage that has affected level four and five hospitals in the county.
Dr Jonah Mwangi Manjari, the County Health Executive member, has confirmed that they are in the process of hiring more nurses. Last week 50 nurses were deployed to county hospitals with 25 leaving for Gatundu Level Four Hospital while the rest went to Lari and Kiambu hospitals.
Manjari said by September this year, the county government will have addressed the shortage in over five hospitals.
He said Thika, Kiambu and Gatundu will be given preference since they require a huge number of nurses.
Speaking in Kiambu Hospital when he paid a courtesy call on the reformed alcoholics, the executive said that the county government has been hiring nurses in phases adding they have set up strategies to ensure that before the end of the year, every hospital has enough nurses and medics.
He called on the health practitioners to work hard before his department intervenes and gets a permanent solution to the shortage.
He said they are aiming at bettering the health sector.
