Kiambu County chief officer of public service and administration Dominic Gicheha has sent a strict warning to bar operators colluding with illicit brewers in the area to distribute the brews.
This comes hours after four people died and others admitted in hospital after consuming illicit brew in Kiandutu, Thika sub-county.
Speaking in Thika on Wednesday, Gicheha said that all bar owners who are operating without licenses as well as those flouting the laid down rules will be arrested and charged according to the law.
“We have confirmed the incident that happened this morning and we have launched a raid on all illicit brew dens in the area. We have received information that the brewers are now hiding the illicit brew in bushes due to the intensified fight against the menace," said Gicheha.
He added: "We have also received reports that the brewers are hiding the illegal alcohol in rivers and toilets which is dangerous. I urge area residents to be keen and report such cases to the relevant authorities," said Gicheha.
Gichesha said that law enforcers in the area will not relent until they curb the vice.
“We have rules and regulations on how bars should operate and the rules are crystal clear. We will relentlessly fight all illicit brews day and night to ensure that no single life is lost to the killer liquor. I urge all chiefs and the assistant chiefs to intensify the fight at grass root level and cooperate with the locals to end this menace,” he added.
Residents have however faulted the administration for failing to avert the incident citing fore warning by some residents who hinted the presence of killer brew in the area.
