A section of MCAs in Kiambu County have come out to speak against same sex marriages while warning US President Barack Obama against discussing the topic in his tour to the country later this month. Chania Ward MCA Ng'ang'a Muthua and his Gituamba Ward counterpart Samuel Ng'ang'a have said that there is no way same sex marriages will be allowed in Kenya as they are against the constitution and African traditions.
"Homosexuality is illegal in Kenya and is also against our religious and cultural beliefs. If the Americans are happy with it, let them stay with it and not come here to sell the idea to us", said Muthua. Ng'ang'a on his part said that Kenyans have a responsibility to stand and guard their societal morals jealously and not be alienated by foreign values.
"Americans have what they believe is good for them and we also have what we propagate and stand for. There should therefore be no conflict with either side trying to force the other into its beliefs", said Ng'ang'a. This comes in as State House said yesterday that it won't stop Obama from addressing the topic saying Kenya allows the freedom of expression. The two MCAs were speaking in Makwa ACK church Sunday in Chania Ward.
