Kiambu county executive committee member for Youth Affairs and Sports Machel Waikenda has praised youth for involving themselves in income-generating projects.
“Youths from Kiambu have set a role model in being independent by starting money generating projects,” Waikenda said.
Speaking on Saturday in Kiambu town during the Kiambu Youth Trade Fair, Waikenda said the county government is committed in helping youth to be economically empowered.
“Kiambu government has set funds to empower youth to improve their livelihoods and to contribute to the growth of the county,” said the executive committee member.
He said his ministry will continue hosting similar fairs in other parts of the county with a view of developing a public participation platform for youth.
“The trade fairs are meant to provide an opportunity for youth in Kiambu to interact with the department of Youth Affairs and Sports and to create platforms for discussions on the best way to ensure effective service delivery to the youth and to market their products,” he said.
“We will continue addressing the challenges affecting youth by hosting several trade fairs to empower them,” he added.
However, the youth raised the issue of the 30 per cent public procurement meant for the youth and the Uwezo Fund.
The youth felt short-changed in the tendering process since it was proving very hard to be awarded the lucrative tenders promised by the Jubilee government.
