Kiambu County security heads have met on Tuesday to deliberate on the new tactics of apprehending and curbing insecurity mostly in Thika, Kikuyu, Kiambu and Githunguri.
According to Thika Deputy Administration Police Commander (DAPC) Samuel Ombonya, the public needs to be sensitised on the new security measures set today by the team.
Ombonya said this will ensure that residents are involved in the whole process of enhancing their security by the police and other security personnel.
Nyumba Kumi has been highlighted in the meeting with Kikuyu OCPD Mutune Maweu raising concerns that the initiative has been successful in most areas where it has been rolled out.
He added that other areas have failed completely making the crime incidences to rise again.
Maweu said that some of the community policing officials have been involved in criminal activities before and the public has not regained confidence in them even after their reformation.
Gicheru at the same time issued a stern warning to any officer in Thika sub-county involved in graft and bribe collection in the pubs and from criminals. He said that he has been receiving claims that some officers use his name in some cases.
“Some officers collect the money from criminals and say that Gicheru wants more so that you can get more easy earnings. I want to tell you that your days are numbered now that the public has become brave enough to report such cases to me directly,” he said.
The meeting was held at the Thika Probation offices.
