Following the countrywide withdrawal and elimination of illicit brews that commenced last week, numerous alcohol users have been subsequently subjected to acute withdrawal syndrome.
In Kiambu County, the county government has initiated a number of short to medium-term measures to counter occurrence of acute alcohol withdrawal syndrome.
The county health CeC Jonah Mwangi has said that there are measures to provide rehabilitation and counselling services to the medical emergency.
The county government has set up 13 rehab centres in all level four and five health facilities in the county which can be accessed at any time.
Mwangi, in a press statement on Thursday evening, said that the county government has acquired the necessary emergency medication and organised for all the health care providers to be able to respond to the problem.
He added that they are working closely with the department of youth and sports to identify the affected youths.
The county government will also provide follow-up rehabilitation and counselling services for all persons recovering from alcohol dependence in these facilities.
The crackdown on illicit brews in the area has left 11 addicts admitted at Thika Level Five Hospitals suffering from withdrawal symptoms.
