Kiambu County government has announced plans to construct and rehabilitate over 250 kilometres of roads in the next 18 months.

Speaking at Ndumberi Municipal Grounds in Kiambu during Mashujaa day celebrations, Governor William Kabogo said adequate funds have been set aside for road construction and renovations.

Kabogo said that the funds have been allocated in the current budget and that various contractors have been given contacts to start the renovations.

“We have set aside enough funds that will be used to construct new roads and rehabilitate existing ones in the next one and half years,” said Kabogo.

The governor stated that the road renovations will be carried out across all sub-counties and will commence by next month. He said that his government is keen to promote road infrastructure.

Kabogo intimated that through road development, the county will be able to open up and link with other counties.

The governor further noted that the county will be able to achieve other development goals if the infrastructure is developed. He said the county government has partnered with local and foreign investors to boost infrastructure development.

Kabogo on the same note urged the national government through the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (Kura) to spearhead some of the road renovations in rural areas.

The Kiambu governor on the same note urged contractors who have been given work to ensure they complete it within the stipulated time.

The governor’s assurance on roads development comes as a section Ruaka residents in Limuru urged the county government to fast-track renovations along the Limuru-Ruaka road.

The residents claim that the construction of the five kilometre stretch between Limuru Town and Ruaka has taken long. The locals fear that the onset of anticipated El- Nino rains would make the roads under construction impassable.

“The county government should hurry and complete the renovations being undertaken along the Ruaka-Limuru road,” said Geoffrey Maina, a resident.
