Kiambu women have been urged to venture into business as a way of uplifting their livelihoods and reduce taking too many loans.
Jane Muthoni, a business lady in Thika, called on all women to take advantage of the reduced Kiambu business taxes to earn livelihoods.
Muthoni advised that a business does not necessarily have to start big and that even five hundred shillings can be enough capital.
"Kiambu government is building stalls at Mukiriti Market in the next two months. This must be an opportunity that women must not miss to embrace. In fact, business is all about commitment and dedication," said Muthoni.
Muthoni noted that the business world is more fruitful than employment citing that she has done a lot in life from her own green grocery shop and a small hotel located in Thika Town.
"I have for instance bought land, I drive my own car and I am not stressed by any boss. Self-employment is the best since it also creates jobs for other people. I've employed four people in the hotel and the grocery stall that is in Mukiriti Market," said Muthoni.
Muthoni, who started the business in 2005, says it has been good and called on women to utilise their small ideas and go for government funding which she said would form a base of capital.
"Many businesses in Thika are owned by middle-aged women who have been empowered and are doing well. Women should take Uuwezo Funds and start businesses," said Muthoni.
