Some four men from Kiandutu have been taken to Thika Level Five Hospital on Monday morning after they were overwhelmed by severe alcohol withdrawal syndrome.

According to the hospital's chief nursing officer, Rosemary Mwangi, the four are in bad shape but they have been given immediate medical attention.

This comes days after six people were confirmed dead in the area due to the same situation with Governor William Kabogo admitting that the medics were not set for the incident that arose after the fight against illicit brews was intensified.

The health practitioners are at the moment fully equipped and the health institutions refurbished and ready to receive any patient with the syndrome.

According to the hospital's medical superintendent Dr Andrew Toro, the county government needs to invest more in rehabilitation centres as the health institutions are now being reduced in bed capacity to cater for the alcoholics.

“We need to set up real rehabilitation centres not just saying. There are no centres and the hospitals are overwhelmed with the reduction of the bed capacity so as to cater for the special needs patients,” Toro told the press on Monday.

The public has been sensitised to take their patients to hospital immediately they are affected. The county government is also offering counseling through the youth senate.
