Kibera residents have today urged the government through their sub-county leadership to construct a fire station in the region.

This comes three days after a fire broke up in Mashimoni village burning more than two hundred houses and leaving many families homeless.

The fire saw several residents lose all their belongings. They now want a fire station set up saying they are tired of losing property through preventable and manageable fires.

Residents who spoke to this reporter say if the station is set up similar fire disasters can be managed before much property is lost due to reduced response time.

Agnes Omollo from Mashimoni area said she will be grateful if the fire station saying that many residents have been forced to start afresh on repeat occasions.

"I really wish that a fire station is built, it will help us curb quick spread of fire and enable most of us to progress in life,’ said Omollo.

Richard Cliff Mubule said the station should not only not come with firefighting equipment but should also include other emergency services and ambulances.

"This will also be a way of job creation because people will be needed to work in the centre. Personally, I have a driving licence but am not employed. I am sure I could earn myself a job in the centre if it is constructed," he said.
