Kibera residents have been advised to embrace a healthy lifestyle if they want to keep high blood pressure at bay.
Speaking to residents who turned up for a high blood pressure checkup at DC area, Maureen Agweso, a community health volunteer educated people on how tell if they have the disease.
‘’Those people who are fond of eating junk food and are not exercising risk being overweight. These overweight people are at risk of getting high blood pressure,’’ she said on Wednesday.
Alcohol and cigarettes are associated with cancer, they are also major causes of high blood pressure, she said.
“It is better if you stop smoking and drinking alcohol if you want to live well,’ added Agweso.
She said exercising frequently can prevent people from sending people to the grave early.
Her sentiments were echoed by Emily Otieno who added that too much salt intake can lead to a person acquiring the disease.
She also said the disease can be inherited.
However, she told residents to frequently check their blood pressure saying if the pressure is high and not treated on time; it can lead to heart attack or stroke.
“Your blood pressure matters to all people around you,” she said.
