To majority of people, business entails opening shops or malls that attract huge clients, but to the young entrepreneurs in Kibera, timber business is worth trying out.

Speaking to this writer on Tuesday, the young entrepreneurs expressed their joy saying it is a good idea that reaps them a lot of money due to its ready market.

“We have many people who are now engaging in business to make furniture in Kibera. We thought we could try setting up the timber business so that they can buy it from us. This was advantageous to them since it’s easy to get the timber needed for their job,” said Gideon Macharia, a worker at DC Timber Store.

Macharia said in every business, an entrepreneur needs to know his target customers to avoid making loses.

“All entrepreneurs should always try to get their customers right and know where to set up the business to avoid making unnecessary loses,” he added.

However, as usual all workers need to work hard to keep the profit.

According to Macharia, their business has given them a profit of close to Sh1 million since the beginning of the year.

Martin Oyoo, a co- worker said timber business is the best since it does not require a lot of marketing.

“We open at 8am and close at 6.30pm. We don’t do a lot of marketing since customers already know where to get us,” said Oyoo.
