Following the increased cases of cyber crimes in the Kiambu county,the Kikuyu OCPD vowed on Monday to fight the crime as it has raised alarm in the past few months. Speaking in his office on Monday, the Kikuyu OCPD SSP Mutune Maweu said that the criminal activity was being practiced in the region stating that it was majorly targeting the elderly who are less aware of the type of crime it is.

He revealed that those committing the crime were young people and intelligent who can be of more importance in the society. The police boss revealed that on Sunday three suspects were arrested in connection to a cyber crime they committed a month ago thanks to the tracking system. He said that residents should be very careful not to fall in such traps. He also mentioned that government offices were a target from this criminals and they watch out in order to assist police put effort to fight this type of crime.

He said that such criminals are driven with lack of job opportunity and lack of advise from their surrounding ending up using their intelligence to commit crime. Maweu revealed that such brains could be very productive to the nation if only guidance and counselling is given to youths before they easily get influenced with their peers in such activities.

"We are determined to ensure we fight this type of crime as it has really taken root in the region. However I want to caution residents to be on the look out and also use the internet wisely and not communicate with strangers in the social platforms as they may end up being trapped in the criminal act," said Maweu. He however vowed to ensure they seize the menace before it becomes a disaster in the region. However he advised parents and residents to guide their children especially those from high school and colleges not to go for quick money that may land them to trouble. He said this stating that those influencing them know about the scarciy of jobs and will take advantage of any unemployed person using the intelligent ones to commit the crime.
