Traffic police in Kikuyu Wednesday seized a pickup suspected to be transporting illicit brew.
Confirming the incident, Kikuyu OCPD Mutune Maweu said the pickup driver was speeding when he was arrested by police at a road block.
The police boss said the driver tried to stop the pickup some distance away after the officers signalled him to stop for inspection with the intent to escape.
However, the OCPD said the police got him before he escaped, and on a quick search at the back of the pickup, they found jerricans which they suspected contained illicit brew.
"About 220 litres of the suspected brew was impounded and the driver is also in custody as investigations are underway. This goes as a warning to those drivers being used to transport illegal goods that they will find themselves in trouble," said Maweu.
He revealed that drivers who transport such goods were on the police radar and the traffic police will continue conducting a crackdown on roads in the region.
