Kikuyu residents have been asked to replace lost National Identity cards (IDs) to avoid being arrested for not possessing the documents.
Speaking in his office on Wednesday, Kikuyu OCS Joshua Arende said most residents were finding themselves on the wrong side of the law for not possessing IDs.
He said that in the past two weeks, over 30 residents were arrested for not having their IDs as most of them claim to have lost them.
The OCS said such excuses are not relevant to the police adding that those who have misplaces their IDs should apply for new ones to avoid getting arrested.
He said most residents do not understand the consequences behind not having an identification card stating that the document is important as it proves legality and identity.
The OCS pointed out that residents can be suspected of engaging in terrorism and other criminal activities, simply because they do not possess IDs.
Arende said some foreigners were in the country illegally and when police conduct patrols and ask for IDs, that is how such issues are identified.
"I urge all those residents who do not have IDs or have lost them to have them replaced to be on the safe side. That is the only way to be safe because when you get arrested without one, you will face the law,” said Arende.
He said seven Kikuyu residents were arrested on Tuesday and will be arraigned in court in today.
The OCS urged youth to ensure they possess valid IDs to avoid being on the wrong side of the law.
