A section of Kikuyu residents are complaining of the emergence of a gang demanding for protection money from them.
This is despite a few arrests recently of a number of the ‘raia’ gang members.
Peninah Waitherero, a resident, said that despite the arrest of a few members of the gang, they are still experiencing their existence in the region.
She mentioned that the gang has gone to an extent of demanding money from every house to be assured of security.
Waitherero explained that the gang has been terrorising the residents since the arrest of their fellow gang members. She explained that they come demanding for at least Sh500 from every house saying that even if residents report the matter to the police, the gang will not die.
“We are insecure and we want the police to come to our rescue. We are living in fear,” she said.
Responding to the complaints, Kikuyu OCPD Mutune Maweu said that they were working to ensure they eradicate the criminal elements. He mentioned that they had relevant information they require to arrest other gang members.
Maweu stated that the gang is comprised of young men from 17.
“We are going to make sure we finish this group and all its criminal activities. I want to assure residents that we are beefing up security to curb brutality from this gang,” said Maweu.
