Outgoing Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete on Sunday told a local media that he will now have more time to visit Kenya as a private citizen.

Mr Kikwete, who was speaking after casting his ballot at Msoga hospital polling centre, also assured Kenyans that his attachment to the country will be felt more after leaving office, adding that he has many friends and places to visit here. 

“I have a lot of friends that I will keep visiting in Kenya once I leave office,” the retiring president said.

"I will be free to visit as a private citizen than when serving as a head of state,” he said.

He told journalists that once he comes back he will get time to visit Naivasha with his family and friends and interact with many other Kenyan friends. 

He said that he leaves the country’s top office a satisfied man, having led to a more stable economy, better infrastructure, improved social-economic status of the country. 

He challenged his successor to better his record and address the challenges facing the nation.
