The residents claim the area is becoming dirtier by the day and urged the county government to act before the situation gets worse.

A spot check around the town and the residential area revealed mounds of garbage especially in the alleys between buildings.

Beatrice Njogu, a resident, blames the residents for the mess.

"People these days dump anything anywhere. If this continues even cholera and other diseases will find their way here," she says.

Njogu claims people have ignored the traditional dumping sites and enforcement is required to tame the situation.

Stephen Otieno agrees with her but heaps the blame on the county government.

"If they caught those who litter anywhere and charged them this would not be happening," quips Otieno.

He, however, urges fellow residents to observe cleanliness. There is also concern about people who dump soil at night which often makes the roads in the area impassable especially when it rains. It is suspected the soil comes from construction sites.

The owners dump them there to avoid transport costs they would incur if they dumped the soil outside the area. A heap of wet red soil was dumped on a road that was murramed recently thereby making it muddy when it rained.

Kinoo Ward Administrator, Susan Kihanya, says the county government has never stopped collecting garbage from the area.

She says they are working on it to ensure the area stays clean.

"The county government has been visiting Kinoo twice a week to collect garbage. On the other hand, the public should help us with information on the people dumping garbage anywhere so that we can take action against them," adds Kihanya.
