Nakuru County Governor Kinuthia Mbugua has denied allegations that he ordered the arrest of Nakuru Town East MP over dumping of alcohol at a public place.

Addressing the press in Nakuru Town, Kinuthia claimed that he was not involved in any way in the arrest of David Gikaria.

Gikaria was last week arraigned in a Nakuru court for dumping illicit liquor bottles and boxes impounded during a crackdown at Mburu Gichua roundabout.

Nakuru Senior Resident Magistrate Judicaster Nthuku released the MP on a Sh200,000 cash bail as he awaits the hearing that is set to be on October 19.

The MP’s lawyer Ochang Ajiro protested the prosecution of Mr Gikaria at the Nakuru law courts saying that the move was "politically motivated".

Kinuthia said that nobody would be victimised for his role in the fight against the crackdown on second-generation drinks.

“The county government is working closely with all leaders to eradicate the sale of illicit liquor and nobody will be arrested for his role in the fight,” said Kinuthia.

Kinuthia said that the crackdown has made progress and urged for cooperation between residents and the police.
