Speaking on Wednesday at Kiogoro Primary during an impromptu visit to assess educational standards of the institution, Samuel Apoko urged school heads from area institutions both at the secondary and primary level to identify genuine beneficiaries.

According to him, the offer will challenge students from the region to compete favourably, hence improving the region’s performance in national exams.

“Education standards in Kisii Central have not been impressive both at Secondary and primary level. I would like to start supporting education by supporting bright children who are orphans as the first step to challenge children to compete against each other for the purpose of improving academics,” he said.

Apoko promised to extend the project to other children who perform well in class yet they come from needy families.

“The programme will soon be expanded to assist other children from vulnerable families but who will convince me academic wise. After all, the aim of this programme is to support academics,” he said.

The outspoken MCA further promised to given each institution undisclosed amount of money that will be used to cook tea for teachers who attend morning and evening preps.

“I understand that we have very hard working teachers and I will let head teachers know the amount of money that I will send to all schools around whose aim will be buying tea for teachers who attend preps,” he added.
