Kisii County Boda boda operators have been urged to comply with traffic laws to avoid regular friction with police officers who are carrying out their duties.
According to Kisii operators’ Chairman Nelson Manduku, the boda boda operators in most occasions decry of harassment, yet they don’t adhere to traffic laws that have been set.
“Sometimes I agree the police harass us, but to some extent we are in the wrong and in the process you find we have created unwanted friction between us and the police,” said Manduku.
Manduku also said those in the popular boda boda business had an obligation to ensure there was sanity and safety along the roads, to reduce the increasing number of road accidents involving motorcycles in the region, some of which were fatal while others left the victims helpless and depending on family and relatives for a living.
He also pointed out that most of the cyclists were incompetent, since very few had taken the initiative to undertake the necessary training to enable them have the required documents to confirm that they had adequate knowledge and skills on how to use the roads safely.
