The Kisii community has been urged to value the girl child and refrain from outdated practices like female genital mutilation, which has been disastrous in the region.
Speaking on Saturday evening while preparing for Sunday's female gender's day dubbed 'Smart Girl', Kisii county's first lady Elizabeth Ongwae called on all female leaders from the county to show up and support the girl child, whom she termed as an 'abandoned figure' in a world rife with male dominance.
Ongwae requested all and sundry to grace the event, which was organized at Ibeno Secondary school, to share their life experiences and offer constructive advice to the girl child to change the common and misleading mindset amongst people.
"We should work towards recovering ourselves as female gender, let us join hands and save our girls from the misuse, from vulnerability and ensure she is valued in the community," Ongwae advised.
The event was organised by the region’s leading female radio presenters from Egesa FM, and the Gusii channel in association with female leaders from Kisii including Women representative Mary Otara and nominated senator Janet Ongera.
