Kisii County Commissioner Mr Chege Mwangi has banned hawking around banking institutions as it contributes to congestion around financial institutions posing a security threat.
Mwangi asked the Kisii County Government to take urgent measures to identify a designated location for hawkers to have them relocated from the front ways and entrances to the financial institutions to enhance security.
Speaking yesterday at Gusii Stadium during the marking of this year's Mashujaa Day, Mwangi who was responding to the concerns raised by the Kisii County Chairman of Bankers Association Mr John Momanyi, assured the bankers and their customers of their security around the institutions.
"I am assuring the Kisii County chairman of the Bankers Association that the issue of hawking around banks will be addressed and ensure all those areas around the financial institutions are not congested with hawkers as part of security measures to secure and protect the institutions and their customers from any security threats," assured Mwangi.
Mwangi said security around financial institutions was critical and the areas around those institutions should be under close security surveillance to ensure no acts of lawlessness are witnessed around such sensitive areas in the town.
