Institutions from Kisii County will undergo a major renovation in a bid to establish good learning conditions for pupils, a senior county official has said.

Speaking to the press on Friday, Deputy Governor Joash Maangi said the county government had set an extra Sh200 million that will be used to improve floors, washrooms and collapsed buildings in different institutions.

He said even though the education docket was still a centralised function, the county government had made the decision in order to promote education in the region which is a core objective of the county government.

“The county government is determined to improve the education standards and that is why we are determined to ensure our children learn in a conducive environment. The county government set aside Sh200 million as the supplementary budget for the education docket,” he said.

Maangi said a special committee from his office will be constituted soon and its mandate will be going across the county to establish the institutions in dire need of rehabilitation.

“My office will establish a committee soon that will be identifying institutions in urgent need across the county. I have already set the pace and what remains it to identify the institution and get contractors to do the job,” he said.

However, he challenged the national government to work with speed to ensure that children receive quality education by deploying enough teachers in the institutions.
