Kisii business community chairman Walter Kiyondi has called on the county government to construct a new drainage system in the town to prevent spillage of sewage and dirty water.

The plea came after the Kisii government said it is ready for the El Nino rains expected to start in October.

Addressing journalists on Tuesday in Kisii town, Kiyondi said the county government should construct a new drainage system before the rains start.

"All the drainage systems we have here were created some years back. Most of them are blocked making it impossible for water to drain whenever it rains," noted business community chairman.

He also raised concern over the foul smell at the market especially during the rainy seasons, saying it is a result of spillage from the sewers.

“Always when it rains here in Kisi it is filled with dirty water and mud making it impossible for businesspeople to get to the market,” added Kiyondi.

Meanwhil,e he called on the county government to construct the bridge at Ram Hospital on the Kisii -Nyamira road.
