Young people in Kisii County have been urged to make use of government funds set aside for them to start up business ventures that will empower them economically.

Speaking during a ‘Youth Bunge’ trade fair held in Kisii town on Wednesday Kisii county Cec for Youth Sports and Culture, Mrs Marcela Otuke advised the youth to utilise their potential and disengage from drug abuse.

"Drug and alcohol abuse has robbed many young people in Kenya of their abilities. its important that you build on your strengths to empower you economically," she said.

Otuke also called upon the youth to form groups in which they could brainstorm on ideas that will help them engage in income generating activities to uplift their financial status and keep them away from crime and drugs.

She pointed out that the county government was ready to partner with young people to offer financial and technical support needed to start and sustain businesses and urging them to utilise such opportunities.

“We have seen many youth get lost in drug abuse instead of concentrating in development issues. Instead stay productive to help the country grow as they empower themselves economically too,” said Otuke
