A modern Artificial Insemination (AI) Centre will be unveiled in Kisii County to boost dairy farming in the region.

Kisii Governor James Ongwae said his government was keen on ensuring dairy farmers in the region get access to modern dairy breeds through professional AI services to be offered by professional animal technicians across the county.

Speaking at Agricultural Training Centre in Kisii town during the County's Annual Farmers' Field Day organised by ATC, Ongwae underscored the importance of dairy farmers in the county accessing modern dairy breeds from a certified AI centre. He said this will ensure farmers are not conned by quacks who could inseminate their cows with compromised quality breeds.

"I am informing dairy farmers from Kisii County that my government will soon launch an AI centre to ensure our farmers access services from a certified centre to avoid being conned of their cash by quacks who pose as veterinary technicians," stated Ongwae.

Ongwae's remarks come amid growing demand for certified AI service centres among grassroots dairy farmers across the county. This follows information that Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama has introduced subsidised AI services in his county and employed veterinary technicians offering the services to the farmers across Nyamira at Sh500.
