Kisii government has tabled a bill before the county assembly to allow it set aside money for loaning to traders in the county.
Kisii Governor James Ongwae revealed this on Wednesday when he inspected development projects by his government in Kisii town.
He was responding to a request by Kisii County open air market chairman Mr Elijah Ombongi who had asked the county government to set aside money to loan to traders so that they are able to expand their businesses.
The governor noted that Trader’s Loan Bill has already been tabled in Kisii County Assembly and asked MCAs to make sure it is passed.
“As your governor, I will make sure you get loans from my government and use them wisely to expand your businesses. I urge the MCAs to pass the bill so that our traders get an opportunity to get loans from my government,” said Ongwae.
Ombongi also challenged the Kisii Governor to fence all Kisii town markets to reduce theft.
Ombongi said that in Kisii town markets, theft has been on the rise. He noted that traders leave their property unmanned after covering them using sheet of polythene papers mostly during the night hoping that the following day they will find them safe since there is watchman who provides security.
However, Ombongi laments that most often they find their ware stolen because Kisii town markets are not fenced.
“If the county government wants to save trader’s property, it should fence all Kisii town markets. I appeal to our governor to save us from getting loses by fencing our markets,” said Ombongi.
