A proposed Bill by the Senate to have at least one Hall of fame in every county for the purpose of recognizing heroes and heroines besides preserving community artifacts has been welcomed by a section of elected MCAs from Kisii county.

The Bill, which was drafted by Nandi Senator Stephen Sang is currently at the second reading and will proceed to committee stage after most Senators endorsed it on Tuesday afternoon.

Speaking at Bombaba-Borabu ward during a fundraising ceremony on Tuesday, area MCA Koina Onyancha said the proposal was long overdue, and urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to assent to it once the Senate passes it.

“I have been following the developments at the Senate and I think we have an opportunity to appreciate our culture besides having a chance to remember our heroes like Moraa Ng’iti and George Anyona among others who made significant contributions to our country,” he said.

Kisii Assembly Majority whip Henry Moracha praised Senators and urged Governors to start preparing a location where the Halls of fame will be established.

“Our Senators have done a tremendous job and I think it’s up to the Governors and MCAs across the country to look for a location where those halls will be set. I believe our President understands the importance of the Bill and he won’t let us down,” he said.

They however urged the motion mover to include a section that will compel the state to reward those who will be identified in terms of monetary.

“I have already had an access to the proposed Bill and I urge Senators to make it by law that whoever will be identified as hero or heroine is rewarded in terms of monetary,” said Evans Siko of Sameta.
