Residents of Marani Sub County have urged Kisii County government to consider equipping local dispensaries in the region with enough medical equipment and human resource.

Speaking on Wednesday during the burial in Nyamotaro village, speaker after speaker accused the county government for allegedly focusing on improving facilities in Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital and in the process, forgetting local dispensaries.

They gave the county government an ultimatum of 1 month to rectify the situation in the sub county hospital in Marani and surrounding dispensaries, before making a formal presentation to authorities through protest.

“The county government should avoid crisis with us. Our local hospitals and dispensaries are poorly equipped and they rarely have enough staff. We have raised the issue for a long time and this is the time for the county to rectify the situation,” said Mr. Elijah Ong’era.

According to them, many residents were losing their lives due to long distances travelled to Kisii town to seek medical attention.

“Our people have been travelling to Kisii town to seek medication because our local dispensaries and sub county hospital are poorly equipped. They don’t have enough human power, something that should be rectified urgently. If the situation isn’t rectified, our people will continue dying,” added Mrs. Gladys Oenga.

Kisii County Executive Mrs. Sarah Omache admitted shortage of medics and equipment but hinted a possible recruitment and subsequent purchase of equipment in these financial years.

“I have heard the concerns for a number of times and the county is on the verge of handling the issue,” she told this writer.
