Kisii residents want police to beef up security as concerns continue to mount over increasing cases of criminal attacks.

The residents of Menyinkwa estate say they have been living in fear as a result of a spate of robberies being perpetrated by a criminal gang.

They say they cannot venture outside after 8 pm for fear of being attacked by the gang on prowl, while those who are late in town cannot walk back to their homes after 9 pm.

Alice Bitengo, a resident narrated on how she was robbed of money and her mobile phone over the weekend by two men.

She added that her attackers, who had threatened to kill her if she dared raise an alarm covered their faces to conceal their identities, but said they appeared to be in their early twenties.

The incident occurred slightly less than a week after a woman was brutally attacked by unknown men as she walked home from work and robbed of money and other valuables.

The residents have also urged the county government to install security lights along the town’s streets and estates to ward off gangs of criminals lurking in the darkness waiting to pounce on unsuspecting people.

An officer at the Menyinkwa police station said police were on top of things and patrols have been intensified.

He added that the police were following crucial leads that could enable them to apprehend a gang of four men that has been on the prowl terrorizing residents in the town.
