Residents from Kisii town have been warned against looting businesses whenever there are fire tragedies in the town and instead be good Samaritans by rescuing the properties.

The Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) Kisii County chairman Mr Benjamin Onkoba has warned members of the public against engaging in looting sprees during fire tragedies, saying it was a crime.

Speaking to this writer on Wednesday in Kisii town, Onkoba regretted that business people who had been hit by fire tragedies in the town continue losing their property to looters during rescue missions, a move he said was more damaging to the affected business people.

"As a businessman in this town, I feel taken a back when I see someone's property being looted by those coming in the name of rescuing the same property they are looting.

"It is my appeal to Kisii town residents to embrace brotherhood and be good neighbours whenever there is fire tragedy in the town and ensure they rescue the property instead of looting them," appealed Onkoba.

The prominent Kisii businessman encouraged traders with huge business investments in the town to insure their businesses and property against fire outbreaks in the area, as part of precautionary measures to minimise risks.
