The county government of Kisii is set to have its own court in the next one month.

Speaking on Friday when he visited the construction site where the court is set to be located, the Kisii County Deputy Governor Joash Maangi said that the court will only handle small issues that occur within the county which need to be solved quickly.

“The county court will deal with petty offenses and misdemeanours that do not have to take long to go through the whole judicial system. Things like traffic offenses that can be quickly sorted out,” he said.

Maangi who was in the company of the Kisii Law Court Magistrate Bildad Ochieng also said that the county government will continue working with the judiciary to ensure that the residents of Kisii receive the justice they seek from their cases.

“We are prepared and ready to collaborate with the judiciary in enforcing the law and we have made a deliberate decision to work with the judiciary in the dispensation of justice because we believe that justice delayed is justice denied,” said Maangi.

He also thanked the resident magistrate and the principal magistrate for agreeing to have a county court.
