Celebrated local female Pediatric cardiologist, Dr Betty Gikonyo, has challenged students to harness their God given potential to excel in studies.

The author of, The Girl who dared to dream, classic said, girls, given the necessary motivation in life stand on the same par as boys to perform well in studies and in life at large.

She made the remarks during a motivational lecture at Nyabururu Girls National School, in Kisii County on Tuesday.

“Personally, I had to whether so many challenge to be where I am today. From a typical rural setting to where I am today has not been a smooth ride yet it has cost me effort and a positive attitude to be where am today,” she said.

Dr Gikonyo cautioned students that even in the face of harshest challenges they can achieve their life time goals if they dared to dream and carry the risk that goes with the dream.

“If you want a role model, never look far. They are so many role models within your reach. For me it was my brother,” she said.

She cited hard work, passion, persistence, patience and believing in oneself as being the secret to a learner’s success.

The talks dubbed the Power of dream are sponsored by the Heart to Heart Foundation, courtesy of the Karen Hospital.

Talk’s coordinator, Barak Muluka told the Nation they have visited more than 11 schools so far and would reach out to more other in the next few weeks.

“We will go down to rural schools as well. After this talk we will take a ten day break before we resume,” he said yesterday.
