Teachers in Kisii County are happy as the court ruled on their favor on Tuesday, a move that will see them get a salary increase of 50 to 60 percent respectively.

According Nyasagati primary teachers led by their head teacher Boyani Nyasani they have been waiting for this day so that they can rejoice and see them work while motivated from the government.

According to Biliah the push for the pay increase have been bitterly contested for years and the Unions have been fighting for the same back to 1994, when the late Ambrose Adongo was Secretary General of The Kenya National Union of Teachers ( KNUT).

“We can now feel we are working for the government for the increase will see us comfortable while carrying out our work” said Biliah

According to the Industrial Court ruling yesterday the teacher’s salary increase will be rightfully backdated from July 2013 and goes to July 2017. The ruling also extended that the long Collective Bargaining Agreement should be registered between Teachers Service Commission and Teachers Union within 30 days.

“It’s a long overdue and well deserved Kenyan teachers are a strategic in national resource and should be well compensated all the time” added Biliah
