Aspirants in the Kisii University Students Union elections who indulge in early campaigns will be disqualified, the university dean of students has said.

The university is set to go for the annual elections and the board of management is concerned with reported cases of unrest in other institutions during elections.

Addressing students on Friday, Gladys Osoro said the institution will not hesitate to disqualify aspiring candidates found engaging in early campaigns in contravention with the institution’s constitution.

“We know some people have started putting the students in election mood yet my office has not made any announcement to the effect. We have to be careful because we do not want any unrest caused by cut throat competition and we will not hesitate to disqualify those found guilty,” Osoro said.

According to her, the institution might be forced to impose a suspension to culprits given the dangers associated with early campaigns.

“We all know that some of our institution goes on rampage during such period and to avert any of such events, we may not only disqualify the culprits but also suspend them,” she added.

This comes a week after some leaflets believed to be dished out by rival campaign teams threatened certain aspirants against running for the October elections.
