Speaking in his office ahead of Interdisciplinary conference that is due to commence on Monday next week, the renowned don said the institution has failed to progress in terms of infrastructure due to original poor planning.

He said surveys have given the institution a proper plan that will see the institution establish modern buildings to reduce the costs incurred in renting houses at Kisii town.

“The institution is growing rapidly and there is need for us to expand it. The original planners didn’t put in mind that someday the students’ population will increase. We have spoken with surveys and architects who have given us a clear map,” he said.

Prof. Akama also urged the government, through the ministry of education to expeditiously solve the land crisis between the institution and her neighbor, Kisii School, in which the latter claims ownership of the land that is perceived to be in the university.

“We have wrangled for a long time over a small piece of land and that has literally brought all development to a standstill. I call upon the government to expeditiously solve the issue,” he said.

The institution was established in 1965 as a primary level college, before it was elevated to a High School college and subsequently absorbed by Egerton University as one of its constituent college. It was given a charter in 2013 by former President Mwai Kibaki.
