Schools and colleges in Kisii County are set to benefit from anti-alcohol and drug abuse mentorship programmes targeting students to transform them into agents of change in the learning institutions and in their immediate communities.

Kisii University's Co-ordinator, Alcohol and Drug Abuse(ADA)Control Unit, Ernest Nyandwaro disclosed that, the mentorship programme targeting schools and colleges will be rolled out to ensure learners are mentored to be role models to their peers both in the learning institutions and in their immediate communities.

Speaking to this writer in Kisii town, Nyandwaro said that Kisii University was passionate in the war against alcohol and drug abuse since the vice was threatening young people who are at their prime age.

"As a University,we are rolling out mentorship programmes in schools and colleges,to ensure young people who are prospective victims of  alcohol and drug abuse become agents of change in their learning institutions and their immediate communities,"stated Nyandwaro

Nyandwaro lamented that if the University will not intensify its war against drug and alcohol abuse among young people in schools and colleges, then it has no business claiming to be a tool of community transformation in the region.
