Youths across Kisii County have applauded the directive from the president to ban the second generation alcohol that has been causing deaths in the country.
According to Dennis Ombongi second generation liquor vendor in Kisii town the spirits which many used to consume in the area were risky for their life and therefore the move to get rid of them will make youths be more productive.
He added that in some cases, most are unable to separate day from night and clearly have little economic contribution to the livelihoods of those they are supposed to provide for.
Eric Agora student Kisii University also said the alcohol ban has been felt in town since all the drinking joints have been closed.
“We want the government to continue the same way so that the youth can stop drinking the dangerous liquor that has turned to be killer alcohol,” said Eric
The directive from the Government was uplifted and said after suspension of the licenses, an inter-agency inspection to certify if the drinks are safe for consumption will be carried out.
Apart from deaths and other economic problems, illicit and heavy drinking has been blamed for violence and social challenges that include men abdicating their family responsibilities.
