A Chemelil based Gods Grace Church Pastor was on Monday taken to a Kisumu Court over defrauding a potential land buyer of Sh90,000.

According to the Prosecution Desk, sometime in March this year, Pastor Samuel Mupeshi allegedly lured complainant Catherine Owino into a business partnership after the latter attended a church service at his church in Chemelil.

The court was told that Pastor Mupeshi had information that Owino intended to buy land in the area and allegedly took advantage of that to approach the complainant telling her that he had a piece of land that was up for sale at Sh150,000.

Since the selling price was within Owino's range, she decided to visit the land and after which they negotiated and agreed that Owino pay a sum of Sh90, 000 as deposit.

However when she went to fence the land she got a rude shock when a man approached her claiming to be the real owner of the land as he had a tittle deed of the same piece of land.

Owino immediately tried to get in touch with Pastor Mupeshi, but his phone went unanswered. She later logged a complaint with the area Police which lead to the Pastor's arrest in Kisumu in April 1, this year.

Kisumu Chief Magistrate Lucy Gitari released Pastor Mupeshi on a cash bail of Sh20,000 with surety of a similar amount pending the hearing of the case in July 30 2015.
