ODM officials in Kisumu East Constituency have opposed attempts to carry out another election in the constituency to elect new officials.

The officials who spoke to the press in Kisumu on Wednesday said that ODM Commissioner in charge of elections Peter Odoyo should not force another election.

Richard Arogo, who is the Constituency Secretary said the constituency carried out a successful grassroots election without any violence witnessed and elected John Osumba Olum as the chairman and other office bearers.

He said that they are astonished to learn from Mr Odoyo that there were two ODM lists from the constituency.

“Odoyo should tell us where he got the other list and who presided over that elections,” he said.

Charles Okello, the Deputy Secretary said they followed the election rules and the team that won should not be disbanded.

Mr Okello said they are baffled by the new revelations noting that taking Kisumu East constituency to another election will be a recipe for chaos.

Treasurer of the party, Agnes Nyagol said Kisumu East constituency was the only peaceful sub county that conducted the elections peacefully.

Ms Nyagol told Mr Odoyo not to be partisan but carry out his duties as a leader.

“In the entire Kisumu County, it is only Kisumu Town East that carried out a successful election. In most areas there was violence and intimidation,” she said.

They spoke following reports that the party was considering to conduct another election to elect new office bearers.
