Kisumu County government has been challenged to strengthen youth polytechnics in the county.

Speaking at the Kisumu County Assembly premises on Wednesday, Railways Ward Representative Mr Isaiah Onyango who is also the assembly’s chief whip said that in the past years polytechnics helped the youth in gaining skills especially for those who could afford secondary education.

"Today there is no other place you can take your child. I would ask that we strengthen the youth polytechnics," said Onyango.

He said that Kisumu Rotary Polytechnic is in poor condition and the buildings need renovations. "The polytechnic belongs to the Kisumu County. There is no any information that a student can gain from the institution," he said. “I would also recommend that the polytechnics we have should be equipped with modern facilities besides putting up more polytechnics."

The Kisumu County Assembly Chief Whip challenged the Kisumu County government to start modern polytechnics in every Sub County. He said if the county government allocates more funds for polytechnics then youth will be empowered with skills and thus be self employed.

"With these polytechnics, we can give the Kisumu youth something to help them gain skills and be proud of," said Onyango.
