A Kisumu-based lawyer has accused a section of police in Kisumu of failing to comply with the law by failing to effect court orders.
Jude Ragot of Otieno Ragot and Company Advocates said there was a worrying trend where policemen are used to defeat court processes.
“I have a case where my client has sued his tenant for refusing to vacate his house after failing to pay rent. The court gave orders to have the tenant thrown out of the house but police are instead giving her protection,” he lamented.
He said they will lodge a complaint with the Police Oversight Authority so that action can be taken against culpable police officers.
“I am going to lodge a complaint so that police officers who have been disobeying court orders are reprimanded for their action,” he said.
Speaking to HiviSasa on Monday, Ragot accused police officers in Kisumu of being used to block the execution of several warrants ordered by the courts. He said the trend if not reversed will create a state of lawlessness.
Ragot further narrated how a Nairobi court gave the order for the action of some property in Kisumu by a bank, where police officers allegedly moved in and threw the auctioneer out.
