Leaders in Kisumu County have been urged to work with governor Jack Ranguma to promote development in the county.

Nominated Senator Joy Gwendo said development should not be based on political interests.

She advised all the county leaders to end political differences and support development initiatives. She also called for women involvement in county development activities.

Gwendo took issue with leaders whom she accused of frustrating the county government’s development agenda and cutting links between the counties and national governments.

The senator, who spoke to the press on Tuesday in Kisumu town, said the region has lagged behind in development due to constant divisive politics.

“Our people and leaders should shun divisive politics and instead concentrate on uniting the community to initiate projects for their income,” she said.

Gwendo blamed politicians for failing to play their role in bringing together the community to elevate themselves economically.

She advised leaders to stop politicking and focus on development to better the lives of the Luo community.

The senator said after five years, all counties will be assessed based on performance.

Gwendo asked Ranguma to be steadfast to initiate development and also champion women interest in the county.

She challenged the county government to consider inclusive service delivery to make all residents enjoy the fruits of devolution.

Gwendo noted that lack of proper consultation at the county has led to slow implementation of planned projects.

She urged youths to focus on constructive issues instead of engaging themselves in criminal activities.
