Kisumu County Assembly MCAs have raised concerns over increasing rate of insecurity within the county.
In a special motion brought to the floor of the assembly on Tuesday, Migosi Ward MCA, Paul Achayo said around 25 people had been attacked in his area within the past two weeks.
Achayo stated that another resident of his ward was slashed by unknown thugs two days ago adding that a group of youthful gangs armed with AK 47 were spotted terrorising the local residents as early as 8pm in his ward.
Kabonyo/Kanyagwal Ward MCA, Charles Aguko reiterated that insecurity is a major concern and blamed security officers for their laxity to patrol residential areas.
Railway Ward MCA, Isaiah Onyango said there was need to implement the Nyumba Kumi initiative to enhance security adding that more vehicles should be given to security agencies for patrol.
Nyangoma Ward MCA expressed concern that despite Sh200 billion being allocated to security docket by the national government this financial year, nothing had been done to improve security countrywide.
Nominated MCA representing women, Farida Salim stated that security issues should be looked into continuously adding that insecurity will scare away investors in the county.
The sitting speaker, Elija Omondi directed the assembly committee on security and administration to investigate further into the matter by coming up with a report on Nyakach-Nyando border conflicts, Mamboleo security status and ensuring that a patrol vehicle meant for Nyamasaria is released to the base.
Speaker Omondi also challenged the committee to find out why County Policing Authority and Metropolitan Police had not been put in place.
He, at the same time, appealed to Kisumu County government to purchase more vehicles for police patrols.
