A 39-year-old man was on Tuesday arraigned before a Kisumu court to answer to charges of rape.
Dominic Okinyi denied the charges before chief magistrate Esther Maina for the offence allegedly committed on June 9 in Nyalenda estate of Kisumu.
According to the prosecution, Okinyi, whose alleged victim is a 17-year-old old girl, are neighbours and their families enjoy a cordial relationship.
The court heard that on the material day, the victim visited Okinyi’s home where he assisted her in revising mathematics as she is a form four candidate.
Okinyi is alleged to have been assisting her since she joined form one. During this time, Okinyi, who was home alone decided to change the venue of revising the mathematics to his bedroom as he claimed to be feeling tired, the court was told.
The prosecution claimed that instead of guiding her through the day’s mathematics, Okinyi is accused of deciding to lock the door, and later forced her to have sex with him.
The court was told that the victim managed to get out of the house and rushed home. She later told her mother of what had happened.
She was taken to hospital and a police report was filed, which led to the arrest of Okinyi.
The accused was remanded until July 15 when the case is set to be heard.
