Teachers in Kisumu County have threatened to strip naked on Friday to push the government to honour a court order raising their salary by 50-60 per cent.
Teachers affiliated to both the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) and Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) said if by striping the government will listen to them, they will not hesitate to do it.
The KNUT branch Executive Secretary Mr Joshua Ogalo said the stripping will only be for the male teachers.
He said the government should avoid singing the usual song of sacking and threats because they will not be intimidated into going back to class.
Speaking at St Stephen Cathedral Church after prayers, Ogalo said they are not requesting for the government to pay them but are demanding because it is their right.
The teachers attended a prayer session at the church on Wednesday to seek spiritual and divine intervention from God.
“The teachers are tired of impunity and are ready to die for their rights,” he said.
KUPPET branch chairman Mr Zablon Awange also said if the government is paying the money, then it should do so with interest.
Awange said this is because every day the government delays with the payments, the interest grows.
He said they are not going to rest until they get their money that the government is trying to deny them.
