Women in Kisumu County have today lauded the visit by the US President Barrack Obama to Kenya saying it marked a turning point on issues affecting women in the country.

Led by Maendeleo Ya Wanawake Organisation (MYWO) chairlady in Kisumu County, Caren Aketch Onyango, the women said they are the biggest beneficiaries of Obama's visit.

Onyango said the growth of the Kenyan economy, just like Obama said, will be determined by the empowerment of the girl child.

Speaking in Kisumu on Tuesday at the Public Service Club, Onyango said women should be more united now and take advantage of the opportunity to improve their livelihoods.

She appealed to all leaders in the country, especially those in the opposition, to work with the government to ensure that projects meant for women are successful.

Asma Adino, who is a MYWO delegate in Kisumu said the gesture was good for empowering women.
