Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) has asked the Kenya National Examination Council (Knec) to cancel the ongoing national examinations for secondary schools and set exams afresh.
Speaking during the Nyanza Regional Annual General meeting in Kisumu on Tuesday, Knut National Treasurer John Matiangi said KCSE exams have over-leaked and officials at Knec should set emergency exams in the month of December.
“It’s good that the CEO of Knec accepted that exams have leaked but it very pathetic when we heard him accepting and saying that every exam must leak,” said Mr Matiangi.
He said that all Kenyans including teachers have seen copies of authentic exam papers going round on social media.
“If you go the market, cyber café and photocopy centres you will find Knec original exam papers being photocopied and sold,” said Mr Matiangi.
He said previous students have been going on strike for fear of mock exams, arguing that there are no leakages in mock exams.
“Students cannot go on strike over Knec exams because they know they will get leakages. These exams have lost credibility, the international community will doubt the academic certificates from this country,” he said.
He said Knec should accept that the exams have been leaking and should set another exam.
